Pre-Commission Requirements
Five steps to becoming a Notary Public
- Satisfactorily complete the mandatory 6 hours of education (offered at
Quick Learning School). You will receive a Proof of Completion certificate
that is valid for two years from the date of issuance.
- Complete a Notary Public Application.
- Pass the exam.
- Submit fingerprints via Live Scan.
- File notary oath and bond.
If complete your mandatory training at QLS, you will have the advantage
of being able to take the exam onsite. Plus our experienced instructors will
provide you with the knowledge you need to pass the exam the first time, as
well as tips to get started in your career as a Notary Public.
The term of office for a Notary Public is 4 years from the date of commission
by the Secretary of State. Once the commission has been issued, the applicant must
take an oath of office within 30 calendar days and provide proof of a $15,000 surety
bond to the County Clerk.
To renew a Notary Public commission, the individual must again complete the
mandatory 6 hours of education and retake the exam.
