License Information

Life Agent is entitled to transact insurance for the following risks: human lives, benefits of endowment and annuities, Death Benefits, Dismemberment & Death by accident, Health & Medical benefits for Sickness, Bodily Injury, Disability Income, Long Term Care policies & Medicare

On January 1, 2008, California's life agent licensing laws were changed to abolish the life agent license and establish two new insurance agent license types, a Life-Only Agent license and an Accident and Health Agent license. These license types are available to both individuals and business entities.

When an initial application is made to the California Department of Insurance, applicants may apply for a "full Life Agent" license by selecting both the Life-Only Agent and the Accident and Health Agent license types on their application. Applicants checking both the Life-Only Agent and the Accident and Health Agent license types on the application will pay one filing fee. Individual applicants checking both the Life-Only Agent and the Accident and Health Agent license types on their application will take one examination for both license types.

Prelicensing Requirements

40 hours of pre-licensing instruction in insurance for the following risks: human lives, benefits of endowment and annuities, Death Benefits, Dismemberment & Death by accident, Health & Medical benefits for Sickness, Bodily Injury, Disability Income, Long Term Care policies & Medicare Supplements Plus 12 Hours of Code & Ethics, these hours may be satisfied by completing an on-line or classroom California Department of Insurance approved pre-licensing course

Time: 3 hours 15 minutes (195 minutes)
Passing Score: 60% or better

*5 additional questions are included in the exam and do not count towards your score. Passing score is based 60% or better on 150 questions. The 5 questions that do not count against your score are not revealed.
